There are certain days that can fill a mind, pushing out any negative thoughts and experiences. Yesterday's run was that for me.
I planned to head over to Leadville and run out and back from Twin Lakes to Winfield. It seemed logical with Leadville 100 just two weeks away. But I've seen enough of Hope and the course to know it and know how to run it and, for once, I didn't feel like running alone. Some guys, spearheaded by Todd Ganglehoff, were planning on tackling the difficult and scenic Pawnee/Buchanan Pass Loop in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, so I decided to join them.
It was a little bigger of a run than I wanted to do, so I decided to take photos and video of the run as sort of a governor to keep me pausing and not try to keep up with the speedy guys. There was a good amount of snow, some mud, abundant water crossings, long climbs up to 12, 541 ft, waterfalls, sunshine, good conversation, and a dead bunny in Troy Howard's grill. Great, tough, long run.
Here's the video
Very nice Mr Footfeathers! Glad you came out and enjoyed the trails. Nice to spend some time in some beautiful country with you.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Pbville!
Great run and video, still haven't done it -- almost annoyed by racing and tapering interfering with all the great options in Colorado. A good problem to have!
ReplyDeleteBut shoot, I thought you were heading to Leadville Saturday. Alex and I couldn't make it Sat. and headed up Friday instead, else we would have coordinated. Looks like you had a great time with less driving involved!
See you for sure in < 2 weeks!
Good stuff! Kills me sitting here in a dark cubicle...
ReplyDeleteNice work Tim - how you feeling 2 weeks out?
ReplyDeleteWow, what a sweet run! Yet another one still on the list... I second Mike's comment - too many races getting in the way of all the good running to be had! See you @ Pb.
ReplyDeleteScott: Super seeing you yesterday. Have a great trip to France and show those cheese eaters how it's done at Sierre Zinal and UTMB.
ReplyDeleteMike: Yeah, would've probably gone to run Hope if someone showed interest in going with me. VERY happy I changed my mind. The run yesterday was much better training and just all around more fun.
Jeff: There've been plenty of times I felt the same way after reading your blog!
Happy Trails (steve): I feel spot-on for Leadville. Putting in some serious tappering and I'll be jumping out of my skin to run by race day.
Chris: Funny, I USE races to see new places. See you at LT.
Was hoping for some good beta (pics) of Hope but I have to say this is much better beta on how to have one heck of a great time...why we run long on trails in the first place!
ReplyDeleteSee in 10-11 days!
Darren
Awesome video and glad you could make it. Perfect weather, awesome trails and a good group of friends. It doesn't get much better. Good luck at LT, I'll be rooting for ya.

Great video! Now I am jealous ;) Rest up for a good run at leadville
ReplyDeleteawesome video. miss ya, man...
ReplyDeleteAnother fine work from the studios of FF Productions. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful brute of a run, glad you got out there. There's a load of snow in those scenes. I must be picking the dry trails, because I haven't seen much.
One of these days when I'm a bit stronger over that distance I'll have to try it again.
Great video Tim! It was a special day of running in the mountains with a great group of runners. It's funny, I was thinking of doing the hope pass run as well until Todd's email, this was much better! See you soon in Leadville!

Nice stuff Tim. I was wondering if we'd get the big screen music going there for a moment ... :)
ReplyDeleteAs has been said a boatload of times before - it is this sort of stuff that we all really seem to want to do ... the other racing stuff seems almost unnecessary in light of it.
Did this loop as a lead in to my first ultra last year. Took something under 9. I've since moved to Bolivia - lots of dirt roads, but very little single track where I live - May have to make some.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting this up and good luck in PB - the "journey" you're on is worthy of a book methinks.

Hey, thanks for the nice comment Jay. Single track cruising is a frame of mind. Enjoy what you have. We'll see how the year pans out before sitting down to write.
ReplyDeleteThanks again
