Ice Age Is Melting

So, I feel absolutely no negative effects of the 50 miles on Saturday - that's the good news.  The bad news is that I'm having a hell of a time trying to find a way to get from Chicago to the Ice Age race in WI (95 miles).  I've racked my brain trying to find a way up there but nothing is panning out.  At this point it looks as though I may not make the trip and have to eat the cost of the plane ticket and race reg.  Hopefully, something will surface but with two days before I'm supposed to leave, it doesn't look good.  I don't believe in credit cards and haven't had one in, oh, 15 years, so car rental is out of the question...

If I don't go to Ice Age, I have a long weekend with Friday already scheduled off from work, so I'll do a long run and long mountain or road ride this weekend to prepare for the mountain bike races the following week and, ultimately, for the San Diego 100 on June 11.  Sucks though because I was really looking forward to Ice Age.

Sunday, the day after CP 50 mile, I went on a road ride and suddenly noticed the bike getting shorter and realized I was almost sitting on the top bar.  My seatpost bolt had broken (likely due to the massive pedaling power).  I had to ride all the way home standing up.  Good times.  The way this week is going, I should just stay home and watch shadows stretch across the walls with the passing sun.

  3. Head to any college campus and get 5 credit cards instantly!

I have one, just never carry a balance on it. Been burned by that.

There have to be some Chicago runners headed up there for the race. Running shop or online forum? http://tinyurl.com/3nnjns3

  4. Uff da, you can't get there from here! You can get to MKE easy enough on bus or train. Carpool, or a bike ride from there would be half the distance and there are manageable routes.

Do you have a debit card at least? Some rental places accept that.

  5. Thanks for being out there Sunday. Again, for what it is worth, you have been there for all my long runs this year. I appreciate that. Wish I could help you this weekend!

  6. Definitely the result of herculean torque applied to the pedals :-)

  7. George. My pleasure for sure. Ultrarunning is mostly positive attitude, so you're a natural.

Steve. Absolutely the pedal power (or an over torqued 12 year old campagnolo bolt)...
