Drop Bags

And the fun begins...

Right: Karl's finely tuned essentials at Rocky Raccoon 100.  Left: Who the hell knows what this guy has in his drop bag, stuffed animals to hug in the middle of the night at mile 80? (photo blatantly stolen from Olga's site)
The Antelope 100 course lends itself nicely to being self sufficient, with a bit of planning.  Two obvious aid stations make great drop bag locations, Elephant Head aid station (hit at miles 5, 10.5, 13.4, 55, 60.5, 63.5) and Lower Fray Peak (miles 27, 38.4, 77, 88.4).  Here's the sweet course map.

Anything else suggested?  Stuffed animals?

Initial drop contents:

Elephant Head
3 Power bars
3 EFS shot flasks
9 Ibuprofen
10 S caps
Socks
Body Glide
Wash cloth
Tights
Long sleeve shirt

Lower Fray Peak
Headlamp
Hand held light
Jacket
Hat
Gloves
Socks
3 EFS flasks
3 Ibuprofen
5 S caps
Tums
Huggy the Bear

Nice 90 min run with Jim P yesterday.  Lovin' this weather.

  1. S caps. Never used them (even during a couple of half IM I did).

Should I think about these for GC?
    Email me if that's easier.

  2. Yes. Without them you will die and I will drink all your beer.

  3. You keep referring to drinking my beer. Forget about it. You won't even know how to engage those bombs.

F S caps. I'm bringing bacon strips and will periodically lick my salty wounds.

  4. Wish I could be there to cheer you on, Tim! But my feelings about SLC border those of another certain county we once shared residency in. I'll be sending you mental telepathy though! :)

  5. Hey Steph,
I'll take anything I can get, mental or whatever.

  6. That sounds like a lot...what do you need a wash cloth for?

Seems like an odd place to put your lights - think it will really take you ~7 (assuming it will be dark at 7pm) hours to run 38 miles?

  7. oh boy, here we go again with rocket boy.
A wash cloth to wipe off my feet if I change socks (knew I shouldn't have publicly added that to my list).
If I hit 38 miles at 6pm, I'll be happy to wear the lamp for a little daylight. What the heck, you think I'm going to put it at 55 miles?? I'd have to run the 50 miler of my life just to get there before sunset.

  8. First, your not actually going to change your socks, so why bother. How many sock changes did you do at Bear?

Couldn't you just have your lights at the start. I checked and you actually have until 8:12...that should be enough time for 50 miles. You could leave a cheap light at 38.5 just in case.

  9. I'll get taken down and eaten by a buffalo without a light.

Yes, I had to change socks and shoes. Started with new socks that were too big and had a blister (first ever) in the first 10 miles.

Ok, no drop bags and I run shoeless and naked with the bib number stapled to my nipples.

  10. Please place the number somewhere else!

  11. That is probably a good idea. All of that other stuff will really just slow you down anyway ;)

By the way, are you running the canal this weekend?

  12. Nick, you're sick.
No on the High Line. I'll just stick to the original plan and run it next month. Antelope is turning into an important race to me and I want to hit the line 100%
I am running long, around 5-6 hours this weekend if you'd like to join me for some (or all!) of it. I'm thinking of starting at bobo link and running to the top of sanitas via all trail (and down 9th st) and back.
